It Is My Right To Understand My Rights

In Partnership with the UNICEF
For Advocating and Raising Awareness on the Rights of the Child

Arab nations joined most countries in endorsing the Convention on the Rights of the Child adopted by the United Nations, which guarantees the right of children (under the age of  18) to lead a decent  life and be granted their fundamental rights. The convention obliges states to conduct themselves based on its content and implement its articles, which include the need to educate the community, especially children on the contents of the convention.

This is deemed to contribute progressively in their personalities as children often consider having all their demands met whether fundamental or those that fall under ‘luxury’ a right. Children’s comprehension of the convention will inevitably help them distinguish between their fundamental rights and luxuries that call for appreciation.

Children's comprehension of their rights contributes to their understanding of their duties towards others. Some children engage in harmful conduct such as discrimination, ridiculing or bullying others. Even though children often mean no harm and may see it as mere fun, it does not diminish the size of the damage that may affect the child on the receiving end of bullying or the severity of the consequences of abuse and humiliation he may be subjected to from other children.

Given the importance of rights of the child and its impacts on the society, the "Be Free" launched the "It is My Right to Understand My Rights" program in partnership with the UNICEF, under the auspices and with the presence of the UNICEF representative for the Gulf States.
The program aims at promoting the Rights of the child in communities, raise awareness on the topic and activate it on both strategic and operational level among the various segments of the society.
